Description

Understanding legal descriptions is crucial when dealing with properties in Oregon. Familiarizing yourself with the PLSS, metes and bounds system, and consulting experts will ensure accurate interpretation of tax lot descriptions. Learning how tax lots are described is essential for property owners and those involved in real estate transactions. This course will cover: Public Land Survey System (PLSS) - The PLSS divides land into townships, ranges, and sections. - Each township measures six miles by six miles and contains 36 sections. - Sections are further divided into smaller aliquot parts, such as quarter-sections or half-sections. Metes and Bounds System - In addition to the PLSS, the metes and bounds system is also used in legal descriptions in Oregon. - The metes and bounds system describes property boundaries using distances and angles. - It starts at a specific point, then outlines the property's boundaries step by step. Considerations - Different areas within Oregon may use variations of these systems or other methods such as Donation Land Claims (DLC). - Consulting with local county assessors' offices or licensed surveyors is recommended for accurate information specific to a particular location or property.
